The owner, Carl Bredenkamp, arrived in Taiwan
from South Africa in 1992 and initially settled
in Tainan City, where he studied Chinese at the
local university. He taught English for several
years and during this time bought a bicycle in
order to explore the area. He quickly fell in
love with the Northern Tainan area due to the
tranquility that it offered. Concurrently, he
set up a workshop creating stained glass, a continuation
of a life-long passion.
Carl was able to bring all of these elements
together in 1994 when a plot of land in the village
of Bamboo Bridge in Northern Tainan was up for
sale. This opportunity allowed Carl to design
his own house including stained glass and other
unique objects in both the exterior and interior
design. A unique house was designed which quickly
became a popular spot for visitors to the Chiku
area. And in order to share the quiet of the countryside
and avoid the hustle and bustle of the city, he
decided to turn the house into a unique and cosy
B&B. Carl is married to Teeny, a beautiful
Taiwanese girl whom he met in South Africa, and
has a daughter Alison, a keen painter. Teeny is
a musician, and sometimes plays the piano in the
B&B, and also shares Carl¡¦s love of arts and
crafts. Together the house is continuously being
updated with unique and beautiful objects, either
bought from their travels, or made by the two
of them.
